Frequently Asked Questions

What are the benefits of the screening versus not doing it?

Screening involves thorough assessment of many aspects of your body during set up to address the ball, and then swing and follow through. A properly functioning body allows a player to swing a golf club in the most efficient way. Physical limitations in a player’s body can adversely affect the golf swing and potentially lead to injury. It is important that we communicate our findings with your Golf pro, so that they understand your limitations and will alter the way you play.

TPI does not believe in one way to swing a club, rather in an infinite number of swing styles. But, we do believe there is one efficient way for every player to swing and it is based on what the player can physically do.

What’s involved in the TPI Screen/Assessment?

The TPI Assessment looks at several body factors which determine how well you will hit the ball. This includes core strength and recruitment of the correct core muscles to stabilise your spine as you swing your club, your balance to be able to strike the ball well, the range of motion of your spine, hips, wrist, elbow, shoulder and ankles to be able to develop power and precision when you strike the ball.

What outcomes have you seen from Golfers who have participated in these screenings?

Screening allows the early identification of joint mobility issues, or areas of muscular weakness, or balance issues that will alter the way you will hit a golf ball. Unfortunately, we all can’t play like Tiger Woods. You may have a low back issue that means the way you strike you ball will be different to someone who does not have that issue. However, if we are able to identify the best way for you to be able to hit the ball to improve the way your body functions, we may just improve your game and reduce your injury risk, leading to increased enjoyment.

Do you recommend Golfers to do this assessment/program in conjunction with chiropractic care?

Chiropractic care is an important part improving your joint function, strength and balance so that you get the most out of your golf lessons and games, and reduce your risk of injury. If you do have injuries, we are in a great situation to provide evidence-based care, and rehabilitation exercises to get you back on the golf course playing again.
